| Marantz was founded in 1952 by Mr. Saul B. Marantz in New York, USA. The worldwide brand was acquired by Philips in 1981 and is owned for 100%. Marantz still maintains its autonomy in product creation and sales and marketing worldwide. |

| Because Marantz markets products to reach three different target groups in the Home Entertainment market. Range: consumers with a keen interests in technologies both in hi-fi and audio-visual home entertainment components. Apart from the future-proof features, build quality and sound performance are key. | What is the Original Special Edition concept ? |
| The Special Edition concept was introduced in 1988 and has become synonymous with Marantz. Over the last decade many competitors have followed suit and therefor the Original SE has been reestablished in 1998, underlining the Marantz heritage in sound reproduction excellence. Based on the original model, all features not contributing to sound quality are eliminated and higher standard components specially made for Marantz are implemented. This dramatically improves both the technical and musical performance. |

| Super Audio CD is a logical step for Marantz. It offers significant quality benefits in sound reproduction. It also allows full retro compatibility thus protecting consumer investments in existing CDs and CD players. |

| What is the difference between SACD and DVD Audio? |
| DVD-Audio was developed based on the video format (DVD video) while the Super Audio CD was developed based on the audio format (CD). DVD-Audio is based on PCM recording technology of the past but offers improved sound quality by using a higher sampling frequency and longer word lengths. The SACD, however, is based on a superior recording technology called Direct Stream Digital (DSD) that more closely reproduces the shape of the original analog waveforms to produce a more natural, higher quality sound that more accurately captures the nuance and atmosphere of the source material. (or: DSD directly records original signals immediately after they have been converted from analog to digital. It makes use of a simplified mechanism for recording and playback, enabling to reproduce pure and high quality sound that comes very close to the original source, giving the impression that you listen to. |

| What is the Super Audio CD? |
| Super Audio CD (SACD) is a next generation music format that provides a more natural, ultra-high quality sound. It offers consumers a smooth migration path to higher quality sound, as all existing CDs can be played on the SACD system. Also, the use of a hybrid disc makes the system fully backward and forward compatible. It offers additional features such as multi-channel sound, which delivers the most exciting and participatory audio experience possible. |

| Why should I buy SACD, is it yet another format? |
| The SACD offers the purest sound reproduction available, delivering a warm and rich sound, with all nuances of a live performance. |

| What is the difference between CD and Super Audio CD players, and discs? |
| SACD provides a warmer, richer sound in both stereo and multichannel. It uses DSD technology that allows for sound reproduction as close as the original source, giving the listener the experience as if it is a live performance. SACD can also offer enhancements such as lyrics, photo's and video clips. |

| Yes, you can! |

| Will the CD be made obsolete? |
| No, we don't think so. The CD is the most popular recorded media ever. We estimate that there are about 800 million CD players currently in existence, and the number of CDs discs sold exceeds 12 billion worldwide. Thus, it is difficult to imagine the CD disappearing or being made obsolete. On the contrary, it is hard to imagine the success of any new music format that is not compatible with the CD. |

| Does DVD Audio deliver an even better sound quality? |
| No, SACD makes use of DSD technology that delivers the ultimate in pure sound. It delivers warm, rich sound quality that is indistinguishable from the original source. |

| What is the technical difference between CD and Super Audio CD? |
| As you know, the CD uses 16 bit PCM recording technology at a 44.1KHz sampling rate. The frequency response of the CD is limited to 22.05KHz and its dynamic range is limited to 96dB. The SACD format is based on DSD-recording-technology, which uses 1-bit delta-sigma modulation and a sampling frequency that is 64 times higher than that of the CD. This enables the SACD format to offer a frequency response of 100KHz and a dynamic range of 120 dB across the audible range that allows for true reproduction of original source material without the omission of any naturally occurring sounds. |

| DVD-Audio recordings made in 192KHz/24 bit PCM contain a higher volume of data than DSD recordings. Doesn't this mean that DVD-Audio offers higher sound quality than the Super Audio CD? |
| No. The volume of data is not the only determinant. DSD offers a very pure sound that is not affected by requantization noise and other types of distortion that occur when a multi-bit signal is played back. |

| How do you explain the better sound quality for DSD compared to 96 kHz PCM? |
| DSD offers, compared with 96 kHz PCM, a much higher time resolution, related to the much higher sampling frequency, and the use of more simple analog low pass filters results in excellent transient behaviour. In addition, DSD eliminates a number of the process steps within PCM that fundamentally degrade the sound. |

| What is the role of DVD within the Marantz portfolio? |
| DVD allows Marantz to diversify into vision products which in turn leads to opportunities to market A/V system solutions. It will also strengthen the added value of Marantz in the Home Entertainment market.
